Making Jams & Jellies

Val’s been busy  writing up about making jams and jellies, which turned into a t series in the Allotment Foods section of the site.

Strawberry Jam

Strawberry Jam for Tea

We’ve got a few recipes on the site for jams and I can tell you her strawberry conserve is absolutely wonderful, which is why there is only half a jar left for me to photograph.

The first article, Jam & Jelly Making Method covers the basic general  method and some information on microwave jams, low sugar jams etc.

Next we do the same for marmalades in Method for Making Marmalade

Then it’s on to Equipment Required for Jam and Jelly Making which is obvious

Then we answer the most asked question from new jam makers – How to Test for Pectin and follow on with Pectin for Jam, Jelly & Marmalade Making which includes a chart showing the pectin levels in different fruits, how to make pectin stock so you don’t need to buy it and so forth.

The final part is Jam and Jelly Making – Fruit, Acid, Sugar and Water which covers the ingredients

So go on – make your own jam, use up that excess fruit and enjoy a little luxury!
